Finds show that this territory was inhabited by Romans, but some hamlets were in habited by Samnites, Greeks and Etrurians, too. In XI century, because of the several Saracen invasions, the inhabitants had to leave their houses and hide themselves on the mountains, where they built new houses. During Middle Ages feuds were ruled by families from Avellino. Some of these feuds passed to Princes of Salerno, the others became part of Salerno only after Murat law of 1806.
